Celebrating World Environment Day 2024 with 'FCC Sustainability Drive': A Journey Towards a Better Future

Celebrating World Environment Day 2024 with 'FCC Sustainability Drive': A Journey Towards a Better Future

On this World Environment Day 2024, we at EatSleep Media are thrilled to announce the launch of the latest FAW show. Produced in collaboration with the Football Association of Wales and supported by our friends at Nathaniel Cars and Bute Energy Wales, this exciting project combines the power of football with a message of sustainability.

The Race Begins: A Sustainable Journey Through Wales

Welsh football legends Ian Rush and Kevin Ratcliffe embark on a sustainability race in MG electric vehicles provided by Nathaniel Cars. Their goal? To head from Wrexham to the Cardiff City Stadium on one charge whilst calling in at various stop offs to discover how we can all be more environmentally conscious.

But this isn't just any race. Along the way, Rush and Ratcliffe must collect clues from various stops to determine their next destination. Their first stop is at Newtown Football Club, a beacon of sustainability in the Welsh football community. Thanks to a grant from the Cymru Football Foundation, Newtown has recently installed new LED floodlights, significantly reducing their energy consumption and carbon footprint, and saving money.

Empowering the Next Generation: A Stop at the School

As they continue their journey, our football heroes make a stop at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun. Here, Bute Energy Wales is conducting a talk on renewable energy, inspiring students to think about the future of our planet and girls about a future in engineering. Bute Energy have teamed up with the FAW to sponsor the women's and girls’ Welsh Cup competitions. Learn more about this empowering partnership here

A Call to Action for Football Clubs Football clubs across Wales and beyond can take valuable lessons from 'FCC Sustainability Race.' Here are a few ways clubs can become more sustainable (suggested by the Football Association of Wales) :

  1. Encourage everyone to use reusable water bottles and make sure there’s water available for people to refill their bottles

  2. Encourage car sharing and active travel (walking and cycling) where possible

  3. Harness your purchase power – buy from local producers and service providers where you can and always look out for Fairtrade and FSC certification on products that you can’t buy locally

  4. Reuse and recycle kit and equipment

  5. Save electricity by encouraging people to ‘switch off’ campaign – put stickers on light switches etc to remind people to switch things off when they’re not being used

EatSleep Media’s Environmental Commitments

At EatSleep Media, we always aim to practice what we preach. We are proud to drive one of Nathaniel’s MG EV vehicles when we travel around the nation filming for our partners. This significantly reduces our carbon emissions during production. Additionally, we minimise travel as much as possible by having a network of freelancers located throughout the country, like Marcus and Lucke at Eternal Media and Amy Davies in North Wales. This approach not only supports other creative talent but also reduces our overall environmental impact.

Join Us on the Journey

We invite you to join us in celebrating World Environment Day by watching 'FCC Sustainability Race’' and embracing the sustainable practices showcased in the video. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a greener future for generations to come.
