EURO 2020 Wales squad announcement
Euro 2020 Wales Squad Announcement
With the UK still living in lockdown conditions, the Welsh FA wanted to create a virtual squad announcement featuring fans from across Wales.
The aim was to deliver something that brought people together, covered the far corners of Wales, and launched their new monoliths campaign to their audience - and to do it live!
The plan was ambitious. The Football Association of Wales wanted to announce the squad for the men’s EURO 2020 tournament on a live stream hosted from Caerphilly Castle, with presenters and fans streaming in from multiple castles and historical sites across Wales.
We found the guests, produced, filmed, and edited the content… and, supported by Buffoon Media and their excellent live-streaming skills, broadcast a rich, vibrant programme across FAW digital channels.
The live stream not only delivered the squad announcement for Wales fans, but also launched the FAW's partnership with Cadw, who manage historical sites across Wales, and their new monoliths campaign. 23 historical sites across Wales were provided with a 7-foot-high monolith of artificial rock with the FAW logo engraved in it.
Each individual monolith was assigned to a different player in the Euro 2020 squad and fans were encouraged to travel across Wales to visit these sites and collect each monolith in their virtual scrapbook. Take a look.
